When it comes to sales and deals going on, the iPhone 5 release date rumors have led to multiple retailers slashing prices on their current iPhones to clear out old inventory. The latest retailer to join the mix is Walmart, which has reportedly reduced prices on the iPhone 4 and 4S models.
According to PCWorld.com, Walmart stores now offer a 16GB iPhone 4S for just $148. It had been selling this model for $188, which was lower than most other retailers earlier this year. The Walmart deal is available in-store online, but can be had with a choice of AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon service as part of the deal.
The other retailers who have already offered sales deals on the current iPhone models are Sprint, Target, Best Buy and the Apple Store. The cheapest deal available is Best Buy's 8GB iPhone 4 for just $50. Keep in mind it lacks Siri integration. Sprint and Target are both offering the 16GB iPhone 4S for just $150. Target's deal is in-store only, while customers who buy from Sprint online through August 26th can also get a $100 American Express gift card.
It's important for Apple loyalists to note that the Apple Stores will match any prices found at the various retailers, although it is unconfirmed as of this report if Walmart's price of $148 for the iPhone 4S is one they will match. There are also some great trade-in deals available for those who want to get rid of their current iPhones to make room for the new model. The PCWorld website has full details on these as well.
For those anxiously waiting, the new iPhone 5 release date is scheduled for September 21st, with an announcement and pre-orders set for September 12th. Apple has yet to confirm the rumors, but most analysts and bloggers seem to think this will be solid dates for the hot new smartphone to be released.
