iPhone 5 release date: Will carrier 4G/LTE war save you money on iPhone 5?

As the iPhone 5 release date draws ever closer, the major carriers are pushing to get their share of the market from Apple's huge success, according to an August 22 Computer World report. Could this 4G/LTE war end up saving you money on either the iPhone or its service? Maybe.

Verizon and AT&T are obviously gearing up for the new phone's release with both companies blocking out vacation requests in mid-September. These blackout dates point to an iPhone 5 release date of somewhere between September 12 and September 21. Ahead of this date, even WalMart is experiencing an increase in search traffic. Do you think they'll try to undercut the competition by offering the absolute lowest price on the new iPhone 5 and iPad Mini?

The good news about the 4G/LTE battle means that you may have the chance to get a deal on unlimited data at a pretty good price. An excellent price comes from T-Mobile USA, which will offer unlimited at $20-$30 a month with no caps. That's almost unbelievable. Of course, is their service the best? That's what you'll have to figure out before deciding which company to go with for your new iPhone.

MetroPCS is another carrier that unveiled a new offering for 4G LTE service. Unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data is just $55 a month. This is lower than what most people are paying right now for this type of service.

Meanwhile both AT&T and Verizon beefed up their 4G service throughout the U.S. opening up several new areas. Will this translate to lower prices, or will customers flock to these carriers because they have a larger 4G network?

Do you plan to buy the new iPhone 5? If so, how will you choose a carrier? Will these new, lower cost 4G data plans affect your decision, or will you stay with your current service provider no matter what sales and deals you see in the coming weeks? Be careful about your choice because you'll likely have to sign a long contract to get the best deal.
