Apple is rumored to introduce the new iPhone 5 on September 21st. Meanwhile, Apple's biggest competitor, Samsung, braces itself and is apparently working on a mini-version of the Galaxy S3. With a retail price of $299 for the model, the South Korean manufacturer wants buyers to think twice before buying the Apple iPhone 5.
Evidently, Samsung is planning a major attack against Apple. The world's largest mobile phone maker wants to position itself against the upcoming iPhone 5 with a low-budget version of its flagship model Galaxy S3. The usually well-informed blog Sammobile reported that Samsung plans to release a Galaxy SIII mini model this year with a dual-core processor, a 5-megapixel camera and a four-inch super AMOLED display.
The suggested retail price for the Galaxy S3 Mini is expected to be just $299. As for the iPhone 5, which is also expected to have a four-inch display, users are expected to have to pay around $800(no contract).
Galaxy S2 Plus also in the works
The Galaxy S3 Mini is not the only opponent of the new iPhone 5 on which Samsung is working. Reportedly, there is also a plus variant of the Samsung Galaxy SII, but there is no further information.
Both new devices will come on the market in the fourth quarter, just in time for the holiday shopping season. Some analysts say they could be presented as early as late August at the IFA. With the these two high-end products, the Galaxy SIII and the Galaxy Note II, Samsung would have four potential iPhone 5 counterparts in their portfolio. A super AMOLED smartphone for every price range, as Sammobile puts it.
