Not only did Apple sell out of its online pre-order stock - in an hour, no less - its carrier partners are seeing the same thing happen as Friday continues to unfold.
As of 2:30 p.m. PDT on Friday, Verizon's site shows a wait of an extra week for those pre-ordering. The site says any orders now placed will arrive on Sept. 28.
Meanwhile, Sprint's site shows an up to two week wait for the 16GB model, but still shows a Sept. 21 launch day date for the 32GB and 64GB models. It is only a matter of time before the 32GB and 64GB models sell out, as well.
AT&T, finally, shows that the device will ship to a customer's hot little hands in 14-21 business days.
Those who absolutely must have the iPhone 5 on Sept. 21 and end up missing out on pre-ordering can still buy on retail launch day by going to a retail location. Apple will opening retail stores at 8 a.m. that day, but you can expect lines. Verizon, AT&T and Sprint stores will have in-store availability of the iPhone 5 as well on that day, and perhaps other locations such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
Best Buy is currently offering in-store pre-orders. So, for the first time, is big-box retailer Wal-Mart.
