If You Want a Prepaid iPhone 5 You’ll Have to Wait an Extra Week

If you want to get an iPhone 5 on a conventional data plan, you can preorder tomorrow and have it in your greedy little mittens on September 21st. If prepaid is more your style? That can be arranged—but you'll have to wait for it.

Prepaid carrier Cricket will offer up the iPhone 5 on September 28th, a week after Verizon and AT&T and Sprint have theirs in stock. It hasn't announced pricing yet, but if past is prologue you can anticipate a $500 iPhone 5 and $400 iPhone 4S. Those higher prices will, presumably, be balanced out by the affordability of their pay-as-you-go data plans.

Remember, too, that while Cricket is the first prepaid carrier to announce iPhone 5 fun, it won't necessarily be the last. For now, though, the only prepaid game in town will also be noticeably late to the party. [Cricket via 9to5Mac]
