The Apple iPhone 5 is missing the "next big thing", however, many analysts are convinced that the new iPhone will have major success. After the company announced the iPhone 5 release date yesterday in San Francisco, the device should be available in nine countries in a week. The new iPhone will then be shipped to 22 more countries on Sept. 12th, and by December the sale will then take place in more than 100 countries. The long awaited iPhone 5 announcement is now behind us, which had been fueled by weeks of continuous rumors.
First of all, the news value of the event held regarding the Apple product was limited. A large part of what was shown had been through the rumor mill once or several times, and most of the leaks were found to be credible.
Evolution is not enough
No doubt, Apple's newest baby is a good smartphone. However, the big aha moment did not come. The "revolutionary something" is missing. According to the standards that Apple has previously set, it's too little to just develop only a good product. The iPhone 5 has a faster processor, larger screen with a higher resolution, thinner body, more Siri commands, better camera and a separate map service. This is good, but not good enough to incite the usual enthusiasm. The comments of various techblogs during the event were positive, but had a cautious undertone.
No "Next Big Thing"
Apple has now left the door wide open for the competition. The iPhone 4 had FaceTime and got donated the processor of the iPad, which gave it a massive performance boost. The iPhone 4S offered little new technically. It had Siri, but very few users were able to have successful implementation of the speech control feature.
The successor is missing the "next big thing", the killer feature. At least one of a magnitude that would give Apple a distinct advantage over the competition. Although the loyal fans will again endure long hours of waiting in front of the Apple Store: The revolution has failed.
