Thief crashes into Apple Store, but finds security hard to escape

A

Thieves used their BMW car to smash through the glass window of an Apple Store in Temecula, Calif.

The burglary, captured on security camera video tapes, was evidently supposed to be a quick smash and grab. One thief got out and collected a bunch of iPods, iPhones, and iPads off the tables. But the car had a hard time escaping through the shattered window and the accompany security gate. The escapees moved forward and backward, smashing into tables and the window repeatedly to make their exit.

They evidently forgot about the security cameras, and police apprehended one of the suspects as he later returned to the car to fix its tires. I’m not sure why he didn’t steal the bigger iPads and MacBooks on the tables. Police say 22-year-old Equonne Howard was one of the thieves. He pleaded guilty on Wednesday, the day the iPhone 5 was announced. If he had waited a bit longer, he might have had the heist of the century, as the iPhone 5 goes on sale on Sept. 21 and it is sold out.
