The wait is over. Apple has released the specs on the iPhone 5 and it pretty much confirms all of the rumors that have been leading up to until now.
Aluminum unibody? Check. Smaller charge port, ditching the old pin connector cable for the much smaller, cooler-sounding, lightning connector? Check. Large, 4-inch screen? Check. LTE? Check.
Other upgrades that weren't as hotly speculated, but are still noteworthy mentions is just how much lighter the device is than the iPhone 4s: 112 grams lighter, in fact. It's also thinner than the previous iPhone, now only 7.6mm thin. Say what you want about Apple's software ecosystem, but they sure do know how to design hardware.
The 8mp camera sensor produces the same results as the iPhone 4s, however, it is 25% smaller now, and the front-facing camera has been upgraded to record 720p video.
For you techies who are interested what's running under the hood, the iPhone 5 will be rocking the latest A6 chipset, and is said to have a two times performance boost. There hasn't been any mention of cores however.
Software wise, it's running iOS6. Not much has changed from iOS. If you're a fan of it, you will like it. If you're not, well, not much has changed.
It will sell for $199 on contract, leaving the iPhone 4s for $99 on contract, the the 4 free on contract.
