Apple iPhone 5 facing release date issue from Samsung 4G/LTE patent ban?

The iPhone 5 release date is just days away, and many rumors point to the newest Apple offering having 4G LTE capabilities. However, a September 3 report from Phones Review points out how Samsung could fight back at Apple over these patents.

Apple has effectively crippled Samsung in the U.S. with its patent lawsuit win. Now, they are even trying to ban sales of certain phones in the U.S. in addition to the one billion judgement it won against Samsung. However, if the iPhone 5 truly does have 4G LTE on its release date later this month, the Samsung could sue over 4G LTE standard-essential patents.

So, this is turning out to be an interesting situation. Do you think it's possible that the iPhone 5 will eventually be banned? If so, what will you end up buying instead?

The good news for U.S. consumers is that the phone is likely to be for sale in the U.S. In fact, Korea may be the only country that Samsung stands a chance of getting a ban on sales of the iPhone 5.

The worst thing about this entire Apple/Samsung fight is that ultimately, consumers will probably end up suffering because the iPhone will have less competition, and that means higher prices and fewer choices among smartphones. What do you wish would happen with this fight?
