Earlier this week Amazon held a press event and for me more than anything else raised excitement for the iPhone announcement. They announced their updated Kindle line which includes a paper white display for its eink reader, a retina display for its 7 inch tablet the Fire, and a whole new product the Kindle Fire HD which is an 8.9 inch tablet that is geared toward those who dislike the 7 inch tablet variety. All of these sound like great products and whether you care for the “I’m not Google” Android for that they are using, they are making waves in the regular Amazon style of bulk sales, and advertising over upfront profit.
The reason why all of those things built excitement for the iPhone announcement is that none of them included a Kindle Phone, and that Amazon went big to compete with the iPad. This may not be a surprise now that the announcement has taken place, but it means that all those Kindle rumors turned out to be false. Combine that together with the fact that people are now admitting to making up rumors just to mess with Apple fanboys means that it’s hard to know what is real and what isn’t.
There are some rumors that are pretty reliable, but we will have to wait to find out. So far the only thing known for sure is that Apple is holding a press event on September 12th and with the giant 5 on the press invitation it is pretty safe to assume that they will be announcing the iPhone 5. Another safe bet is that the phone will be available within 7 business days of the announcement which would place availability by September 21.
After many felt that the announcement for the iPhone 4s was not very exciting due to most of the new features being spoiled as rumors, at least the credible rumors. Maybe now the iPhone 5 announcement will have some suspense. Although Apple tries to limit live streaming of these events there are many sources to at least get the latest information.
