Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhone still available at Verizon after court decision

Even though a California jury has found that Samsung owes Apple a billion dollars for infringing patents related to iPhone and iPad, little has changed as far as what's available at local phone stores.

Verizon Wireless's Laura Merritt summed it up with this quote today: "We have been closely following the events last week involving two of our device suppliers, Apple and Samsung. At this time, we are not making changes to the devices that we are selling."

Apple is trying to stop more Samsung Galaxy devices from being sold, and Samsung is expected to appeal last week's the court decision.

Meanwhile, Apple is expected to announce iPhone 5 next week on the 12th. We expect to see the new iPhone 5 at Cleveland-area Apple retail stores at Crocker Park in Westlake and at Legacy Village in Lyndhurst, plus Cleveland's AT&T, Verizon stores, Best Buy, Walmart and Target stores. and it should be available at Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Best Buy, Walmart and more, in addition to Apple stores.

At the same time, Verizon has announced a series of new Android devices featuring 4G LTE connectivity.

The new devices include the Samsung Galaxy Stellar, a smaller sized smartphone featuring a "Starter" screen that looks like a conventional cell phone, and a second screen that's more like a typical smartphone menu.

Verizon is also offering a new 4G LTE Android from LG, the LG Intuition, along with three new versions of the Motorola Droid RAZR. All these new Android smartphones feature 4G LTE connectivity capability.

September continues to be an exciting month for tech watchers.
