We’ve seen a lot of crazy things from Apple launches in the past, but this year the leaks have all pointed to the same device design. We’ve suspected for a while now that the new iPhone would have a larger screen and LTE capabilities. We’ve suspected this because we’ve seen casing prototypes, glass leaks, and several credible sources pointing to essentially the same design as the final build for the new iPhone. As we sit right around the corner from the announcement, it feels almost like the iPhone 5 is already here.
Several sources recently have all but confirmed the basic size and shape of the new iPhone. iMore’s Rene Richie has either had an incredible lucky streak when it comes to guessing the announcement date and the details behind the device, or one of the contacts in his iPhone is Tim Cook. On top of this, several Chinese case manufacturers have reported that the new iPhone mold that is being given to them to make cases looks exactly like the renders and leaked shells we’ve been seeing for weeks. In fact, we know so much about this phone that the design of the new iPhone has already been copied and patented in China, which may cause issues for Apple when releasing this phone to that market.
With all of the information that we already have, I am curious as to what the announcement of the new iPhone will be all about. We’ve seen some interesting things so far, and while I am not sure that Tim Cook will drop a “one more thing” at the event, it feels almost like we’ve just scratched the surface of this launch. Historically Apple has been a very secretive company when it comes to just about everything. Does the volume of information we have right now show that the era of secrecy has come to an end, or are we in for one really impressive Apple launch event?
