On September 12 Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5 and finally put all the rumors and speculation to rest. We’re all expecting a 4-inch phone using a new 16:9 display in a body that’s thinner than the iPhone 4S and utilizes a smaller dock connector.
Product codes have started appearing for what is thought to be the new range of iPhones, and the good news is Apple looks like it has matched the pricing on the iPhone 4S . So, what you pay today for the 16, 32, and 64GB iPhone 4S is likely to be what you’ll be paying for the iPhone 5 in the coming months.
The iPhone 4S is currently available in black or white with storage capacities of 16GB ($199), 32GB ($299), and 64GB ($399) on contract. The leaked codes for the new iPhone include:
- N42A-USA-$199
- N42B-USA-$199
- N42A-USA-$299
- N42B-USA-$299
- N42A-USA-$399
- N42B-USA-$399
The codes themselves don’t give much away, but the fact the prices match the 4S suggests Apple has kept the storage options the same for the iPhone 5. The A and B in the code most likely refers to black and white models. It’s also thought there was an N41 iPhone 5 that included NFC, but that has been dropped in favor of the non-NFC N42.
This price parity should come as good news to anyone who can’t afford to spend $200 to get an iPhone because it means the iPhone 4S will inevitably get cheaper. Currently the iPhone 4 is being offered for $99 while the iPhone 3GS can be picked up for free on contract. I’d guess the 3GS will get dropped, the iPhone 4 will go free, and the 4S could be offered from $99+ depending on how much storage you desire.
