As the iPhone 5 release date continues to get closer, the Apple vs. Samsung war continues, according to a September 6 report from Cult of Mac. Apparently Apple cut its Samsung order for a chip it is using in the iPhone 5.
Earlier rumors said that Apple actually cut Samsung as a supplier completely. However, that is not true. A source said,
"Samsung is still in the list of initial memory chip suppliers (for new iPhones). But Apple orders have been trending down and Samsung is making up for the reduced order from others, notably Samsung’s handset business."
Apple contends that they diversified their chip suppliers to avoid iPhone 5 shortages after the September 21 release date. This isn't a punishment for Samsung. What do you think?
Ultimately, if Samsung suffers too badly, then they could stop making competitive smartphones, which means that you will likely have less choices and higher prices in the coming years without the competition from Apple.
While this judgment against Samsung has been great for Apple shareholders, it may not be so great for the average customer.
