As the iPhone 5 release date rumors continue to heat up regarding whether or not Apple's new smartphone will be unveiled in the next few weeks, a new mockup has been drawing serious attention. Reportedly, the new item features a look similar to that of the rumored iPhone 5, and is being used to demonstrate an accessory to spectators.
The latest report arrives from CNET.com which talks of the new iPhone 5 mockup making the rounds at the IFA trade show being held in Berlin, Germany. Apparently, this mockup was first reported by the GSMIsrael website, and the site claims it was shown to them by the "CEO of a major cover and case manufacturer." The case is of a size taller than that of the previous iPhone and features headphone jack on the bottom, along with a two-toned backplate. As of this report, the name of the case manufacturer has not been revealed.
CNET is reporting that mass production of these particular iPhone cases is currently underway. With that in mind, the new cases could be shipping out to retailers within a week or so. The news arrives as other potential iPhone 5 accessories have been seen at the trade show including dock connectors and cases, ahead of the actual release date.
That release date is still rumored to be September 21st, 2012. Apple is expected to have a press event to announce their new operating system, iOS 6 and the new iPhone 5 on September 12th.
